The Pope’s New Clothes

Even in the Vatican, clothes matter:

Pope Francis I forewent wearing the scarlet mozzetta—one element of four that make up the traditional papal garments—at his anointing today in Rome. This detail didn’t go unnoticed by the press, and could be reasonably construed as symbolic of the “austere and sober life without ostentation” that Pope Francis has already been lauded for leading.
